Press Release: The BBC’s The Worst Witch airs in January 2017

BBC films latest children’s series – The Worst Witch at Ashley Hall Showground, Cheshire

TEM Locations, on behalf of client, the Tatton Estate have been delighted to host the BBC/ZDF for the filming of The Worst Witch, made by CBBC Productions and co-produced with ZDF.  The Worst Witch is a fantastic and ambitious re-imagining of the much-loved Jill Murphy books about Mildred Hubble, who is catapulted quite literally head first into Miss Cackle’s Academy For Witches.  The collaboration between CBBC, Netflix and ZDF has allowed for a budget far beyond that usually spend on children’s television programmes. With special effects designed by the Doctor Who team and a school set in a castle to rival Hogwarts, has much of the allure of Harry Potter.

TEM Locations Manager, Heather Clawson said: “TEM were thrilled to welcome the BBC/ZDF to our Ashley Hall Showground site, located within easy reach of Manchester.  Ashley Hall comprises over greenroom 20,000 sq ft of event space which was converted into stages for the 9 month filming period and includes 3500 sq ft green screen studio for special effects.  Ashley Hall is the perfect location for filming this fabulous series and much more besides!  The Event Barns are a hugely versatile place for private and corporate events and of course  –  a place to develop creative ideas for TV/Film in the studio/sound stage setting.”  For further information about Ashley Hall Showground, please visit
