CHESHIRE BASED HIGH-TECH MEDICAL MANUFACTURER LOOKS TO EXPAND TO CHESHIRE GATEWAY
Knutsford based Crawford Healthcare, the fastest growing advanced woundcare business in the UK, is looking to expand its current manufacturing and laboratory footprint to a new site at the proposed Cheshire Gateway.
The high-tech medical manufacturer, an international company dedicated to developing innovative treatments and effective dermatological, woundcare and diagnostics products for the care and repair of skin, already employs over 150 people including across sites in Cheshire. Owing to its fantastic success over the past 15 years, the company now has ambitions to expand into a suitable site within the region.
However, there is a critical shortage of available sites for businesses in Cheshire East. Crawford’s ideal location for expansion of its manufacturing and laboratory footprint would be the proposed Cheshire Gateway site, located alongside the M56 and new A556. Crawford, amongst other businesses, have identified a deficiency of suitable options available for expansion within the region, detailing its ambitions to ensure the business stays located within the North West and within close proximity of the company’s HQ in Knutsford.
Richard Anderson, CEO of Crawford Healthcare, said:
“As a company, we conduct our own research, design and manufacturing locally and have launched our own subsidiaries in both the USA and Germany. However, we are committed to Cheshire and we wish to ensure that we expand somewhere near to our current base in Knutsford to retain local jobs. Due to the significant expansion we have seen over the past few years, we are now in a position whereby we would like to expand into a much bigger site. The Cheshire Gateway would be an ideal place for us to expand our business, given its proximity to transport networks and its role in helping create the goals of the Northern Powerhouse.”
Cheshire Gateway, an innovative new employment development promoted by TEM Property, would see a science, technology and logistics park built on the border of Cheshire and Trafford directly on the newly opened Bowden roundabouts. The full proposals for the site would see 2,500 new high-value jobs in science, logistics and advanced manufacturing created directly on the motorway network which links the site to the key hubs including Liverpool and Manchester.
Jim McCain, TEM Property Director commented:
“Crawford Healthcare is a leading international business but very much ‘Made in Cheshire’. We are delighted with the strong occupier interest in the site. The Cheshire Gateway is in close proximity to other Northern Powerhouse projects, including the recently expanded Port of Liverpool, Manchester Airport Enterprise Zone and HS2 station, Atlantic Gateway and directly within the Cheshire Science Corridor.
